Kenneth Carl Blount was a 1968 student-athlete graduate of Kashmere Gardens Jr. /Sr. High School. That year he proudly joined his older sister, Carol Joyce, and older brother, Louis III as Kashmere alumnae. Kenneth was the proud son of Louis and Lucille Blount. The Blount’s moved to Kashmere Gardens in 1954, where he was destined to attend Kashmere Junior/Senior High School. By this time, the Blount family had increased by two additional children: Cassandra and Corliss. Baby brother Wayne followed in 1956. As a child, Kenneth already demonstrated an avid interest in sports. Additionally, always with a smile he could be counted to add some levity to almost any situation. This continued throughout his life.
1968 was a year of major accomplishments! The team won the District Football Championships under the leadership of Coach Billie Matthews. Kenneth made All-City; All Zone and All District teams as nose tackle his senior year.
Not only was he great on the football field he also had exceptional foot work on the dance floor. While his birth name was Kenneth his alter ego was “James Brown”. He was well known for his outstanding performance at Kashmere’s Talent Shows. These performances continued well into his freshman year at Prairie View A & M University, family reunions and anywhere an audience was present.
Kenneth left Prairie View during his sophomore year and was immediately drafted into the Marine Corps. There he quickly demonstrated expertise during basic training at Camp Pendleton winning awards in different events.
Throughout his life Kenneth showed a passion for family, a joy in living and made lifelong friends. He would be delighted to be recognized during this event for his athletic prowess but would also want to be known for his love of God and family, especially his daughter, Shannan and granddaughter, Chelsea, his “near famous” rendition of Precious Lord and the joy he shared with others.
