Donald Reed

Donald Reed was a student athlete and a proud graduate of Kashmere High School class of 1971.  Donald grew up in the Houston area where he developed a love for basketball at a very early age while competing with his older brother Raymond.  He played at city parks, in the community or anywhere he could find a basketball goal, even at times fashioning one from an old bicycle rim.  During junior high school at I. M. Terrell, Donald’s passion for basketball continued to grow and he blossomed into an outstanding athlete.  Donald went on to attend Kashmere High School beginning in 1969. When his family moved from Kashmere Gardens during his junior year, Donald and his brother Raymond decided to rent a house in the Trinity Gardens area so they could finish high school as Kashmere Rams, and continue to be part of the Kashmere High School basketball team’s winning tradition. Donald played from 1969 – 1971 under the leadership of Weldon Drew. With Coach Drew leading the team, Reed junior year Kashmere won the District with a 22-10 record and his senior year they finish in second place.

After graduation Donald decided to attend Texas Southern University.  He later successfully landed a job at FedEx. During his time at FedEx, Donald was recruited to play on the intramural basketball team.  Donald spent ten years traveling and competing statewide as part of the intramural team, combining his love of basketball with the career and colleagues that he also loved and cherished.  Donald was instrumental in leading the teams to numerous victories in Fed-Ex championship tournaments. As a member of Fed-Ex RT Ramp Team, Donald also acted as a mentor for his younger colleagues. Donald moved up the ranks at FedEx, where he received numerous awards over his 33-year career. Donald retired from Fed-Ex in 2014 and now spends much of his time enjoying his other favorite hobby – fishing.

Donald has been married to Sonya Hunter-Reed for thirty-three years. He is the proud father of three daughters (Chakira, Tekera and Dominique) and two sons (Ryian Donald and Ranndy Donald).  He is also doting grandfather to seven grandchildren and two son-laws, Matteo and Edwin.
