Dr. Rickie Baldwin is the epitome of the Kashmere Ram culture graduating in 1971 as a National Honor Society recipient. Rickie held many positions and titles during his days at Kashmere high school, ROTC Team, Library Club, Jet Club, Royal Masters and his most successful one as a student athlete and tennis player. His inspiration for picking up the rack was the great Arthur Ashe who was the first black man to become a star in the tennis world. When Rickie was in the 9th grade, he was approached by Mr. Stuart, one of the teachers at Kashmere who saw the potential for him to become a great player. Over his high school career, he played in many matches and was a district champion in his senior year when he played doubles match with his partner the late William Bowie.
Although he no longer participates in Tennis matches, Dr. Rickie Baldwin has had a successful life. He is currently a professor at The Prairie View University. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, Dr. Baldwin had a 20 year management career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Dr. Baldwin then earned a Masters Degree from Amber University and in 2001; he received his Doctorate Degree from of Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Baldwin has been married to his high school sweetheart for over 50 years. His wife, Janice Katherine Williams Baldwin is an attorney in Magnolia, Texas. Dr. Baldwin is the proud father of 3 children and has 5 grandchildren. He is a longstanding member of Payne Cathedral of Faith located in the 5th Ward. Dr. Baldwin has been an active member of several non-profit organizations including the Prairie View CDC. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. He is also a world traveler, having visited the UK, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Turkey, Costa Rica, Mexico, The Caribbean, many States in the US and most recently Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway and Belgium.
