Anthony Quinn Smith

Anthony Quinn Smith stepped into Kashmere High School in the fall of 1974.  As a student athlete under the coaching of Johnny B. Felder, his transition into high school was a smooth one.  Anthony immediately excelled as a wide receiver on the football team for the Kashmere Rams, earning him a spot on the Varsity Team during his first season.  He was known as “Smitty” to all his teammates.  He received many accolades throughout his high school career, including All District, All Greater Houston Receiver in 1975, a 1976 Blue Chip Receiver, the 1976 Dave Campbell all Texas Team and the 1976 Dave Campbell Top Receiver College Prospect in Texas.  Anthony was also included on the Houston Chronicle [Bill McMurray] Greater Houston All Decade Team of the 70s.

After being heavily recruited by some of the most prestigious colleges across the nation, he decided to further his academics and football career at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas by signing his letter of intent in January of 1977.  At SMU, Anthony played under Coach Ron Meyer on an outstanding team, later known as “The Pony Express.”  He was a four-year starter and after his final season, he was SMU’s 4th All Time Leading Receiver.  Outside of the football field, Anthony became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at SMU.  In 1981, he graduated from SMU with a Bachelor’s of Art in Urban Studies.

Following his football college career, Anthony found a new passion – construction.  After accumulating several years of experience in the construction industry, Anthony and his wife, Lavon (another Kashmere Ram Alumnus), decided to start their own construction company, LD Smith Construction, now known as Smith-Mobley, Inc.  When Anthony is not busy completing projects, he is spending time with his wife of 35 years (who also was his high school sweetheart) as well as his six children, a beautiful daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and a soon to be daughter-in-law in April of 2018.  Anthony also enjoys playing golf and reading in his spare time.  He worships at the Fifth Ward Church of Christ and attributes his successes to being a godly man, his parents, Bencil and Odell Smith and the recognition he received right here at Kashmere High.
