Janice Green-Cooper is a native Houstonian who grew up in the Liberty Gardens area of Houston. I attended Houston area schools – R L Isaac Elementary, Lamar Fleming Junior High and graduated from Kashmere Senior High School in 1973. During my time at Kashmere, I was a member of the varsity volleyball team under the direction of Coach Ozell Harris. In 1973-74, I continued playing varsity volleyball as a freshman at Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas and in 1974 transferred to Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
I have 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry – 10 years in Human Resources including serving as Director of Human Resources and 10 years of experience as Manager of Credentialing. I am currently employed as a Human Resources Advisor in the Fort Bend Independent School District.
I enjoy singing, writing original songs and poetry – published poet in the National Poetry Society Registry. I currently serve as Executive Producer on 3 CDs available on ITunes, Amazon.com & YouTube featuring inspirational, traditional and praise & worship songs. I am an active member of For His Glory Christian Alliance (FHGCA) which a local organization providing opportunities to minister and network with individuals seeking to showcase their gifts for the glory of God.
In March 2008. I received honorable mention as a participant in the Ebony/Jet/Pine Sol “Women Making A Difference through Song” contest held in Houston and I was a participant in the Bobby Jones Gospel New Artist showcase in New Orleans, Louisiana. I travel throughout Texas and other states ministering through song performing original songs I’ve written and produced. My other hobbies include watching old black and white movies on Turner Classic Movies, bowling, shooting pool and karaoke. I currently reside in Alief and I am a member of the mass choir, Women of Praise and Announcement ministry at Southwest Community Christian Center – The Bridge under the leadership of Pastor Gregg Patrick. My husband Michael were married for 32 years prior to his heavenly transition in 2006 of cancer – I am currently single – have two adult children – daughter Shawnda & son Dadrein – both reside in Houston.
Currently serving as Executive Director for a fundraising campaign called “A Child In A Storm (ACIAS)” where the mission is to work in conjunction with the American Red Cross in their efforts to provide assistance to the families impacted by the recent storms causing havoc in Harris and surrounding counties in the state of Texas.
