Keith Downey was a Baseball Player for Kashmere High School who made the varsity baseball team in his sophomore year. He played under Coach Henry going on to play for Coach Warren and Rainbird by his senior year.
Keith Downey attended Prairie View A & M University Majoring in Architecture and went on to the University of Texas at Arlington receiving a degree in Architecture. He moved to New York City working for various architectural firms in Manhattan designing affordable housing in Harlem, lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. He finished his architectural career in New York City working as a senior construction project manager supervising the construction of over (20) parks throughout the city of New York.
He returned to Houston and got to work helping his community. Keith Downey helped a nonprofit ProUnitas to bring wrap around services to the Kashmere Feeder Pattern. These services are now spread throughout HISD, Harmony and Yes Prep. He is the Founder of the Kashmere Feeder Pattern Community Council. Bringing schools together in the community to address the needs of students, bringing in service providers to address socio-economic needs of our students and sharing important data with the community. He went on to becoming the President of the Kashmere Gardens Super Neighborhood Council addressing the needs of residents and sharing their needs and concerns with elected officials.
Keith’s family includes his loving wife Roshida Downey, his daughters Aysha Edwards and Syeda Tison, his grandchildren Amanda Smith and Isaiah Edwards. His sisters Leslie Wolfe and Dena Garrett, nieces and nephew. Keith’s mentor at Kashmere High School is Ms. Patsy Morehead-Potts who he credits with his interest in drafting.
