Leveller Johnson-Reynolds, during my senior year of 1972-73 at Kashmere senior high school I was an active cheerleader under the supervision of Mrs. Maiden, she was also my Health teacher. While at Kashmere I was a B average student and was also a member of the (FHA) Future Homemakers of America which included classes in Cooking and Sewing. Cooking and Sewing were my favorite and I wanted to take it every semester. I received an honorary certificate for outstanding work in that class under the supervision of Mrs. Poland.
I graduated in 1973 from Kashmere and worked there full time in the Reading center while pursuing my education part-time at Houston Community College. I finished with an associate degree in Consumer Science Textile Merchandising and continued going to school at the University of Houston. I was a member of Zion Temple Baptist where I sang in the choir.
In 1977 I married my high school sweetheart Alvin K. Reynolds most people know him by the nickname (Sohi). We were blessed with two girls Kahjuana and Aurelia. I have the pleasure of being Lee Lee to my Grandchildren, Candace (10) and Corey Alvin (4).
My mentor while I was working at Kashmere was one of the schools Teacher’s Aides, Mrs. Lillie Scott. Every day I would make a special effort to drop by the office and pay her a visit and she would always encourage me to go to school and get my education and do volunteer work. My promise to her and myself was to finish college and eventually I did after my kids finished college. I worked full-time and went to University of Houston- Downtown part-time for two years while working for the City of Houston in Finance and Administration with a GPA of 4.0 and receive my Bachelor’s degree the same year my youngest daughter finished college. Unfortunately, I could not locate Mrs. Scott to let her know I finished but I did this for myself also. I have since retired from the City after working there for twenty-five years.
I now exercise daily and volunteer at the Food Bank at Bible way Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Ivory L. Varner, where I have attended for the past 34 years. My hobbies include exercising, swimming, cooking, sewing, scrapbooking and I have started a side business where I make and design T-shirts for family and friends. Every chance I get my husband and I take vacations with family and friends and it’s very relaxing.
