On August 16, 1948, a baby boy was born to Louis and Lucille Blount. He was named Louis Blount III. He joined his older sister, Carol Joyce, in the Blount household in Kelly Courts, Fifth Ward in Houston, Texas. In 1954 the Blount’s moved to Kashmere Gardens, where he was destined to attend Kashmere Junior/Senior High School in 1960. By this time the Blount family had increased by four additional children: Kenneth, Cassandra, Corliss and Wayne.
Louis wanted to play sports so he joined the junior football team as well as the track team. During that time he met so many great friends. Many of the friendships have a lasted a lifetime especially with Jewell McGowen, Brenda Compton and Garrett Limbrick. During his track days Louis ran the 660 yard event and set school records which lasted until Garrett’s younger brother Ralph came along and broke Louis’ records. Football became a major part of his life as well. He played several positions including guard and tackle. Later he joined Garrett Limbrick and James Jackson as Co-Captains of the senior football team in 1965.
In 1964 Louis confessed to the ministry while yet still in high school until this day (a very challenging opportunity at such a young age). While attending Kashmere he accomplished the following:
- Glee Club Member
- National Junior and Senior Honor Society
- Graduated in the upper 5% of his class
- Maintained a straight A average through out
- President of the Student Government
Upon graduating from Kashmere Senior High School he furthered his studies at Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1970. Prior to graduating from Hampton Institute, Louis married his college sweetheart, Vanessa Hunt; they have been married over 51 years. As a result of this union they have four children: Chandra, Louis IV, Danielle and Melissa. Also he and his wife Vanessa are the proud grandparents of Louis V, Dan Jr, Malachi, Camille and Destiny. The Blount’s have resided in Northern Virginia, for the past 27 years.
