Willman James “Bill” Plummer was born in the small town of Sunset, Louisiana. His family moved to Northeast Houston (Trinity Gardens) when he was just a young child. Bill attended J C Sanderson Elementary and then E O Smith Junior High until the ninth grade when the newly opened Kashmere Gardens Jr Sr High School. At Kashmere Willman would become a two-sport student-athlete playing football and baseball. He was a lineman on the football team and the starting pitcher for Ram’s baseball team. Willman was a four-year starter in baseball and football graduating with 8 varsity letters. He was All-District in football and an All-State pitcher in baseball. Willman was also voted ‘Most Likely to Succeed” by his senior classmates.
Upon graduation from Kashmere Gardens Jr Sr High School in 1962, Plummer earned a full athletic scholarship to Southern University in Baton Rouge to play both football and baseball. Willman started in football as a freshman and was selected to the All SWAC team at center. It was at Southern where he met and married his wife Ann. After graduation Bill and Ann moved to Houston and with the aid of HISD Athletic Director Joe Tusa, Plummer gained employment as the head football coach at Charles Drew Junior High at the age of twenty-three. Although Bill began his career as a coach, he made extra income through renovations and home building. Willman earned his Master of Education from Prairie View A&M, along with a General Contractor’s License, and after only five years in the classroom he became an Assistant Principal. He became the first and only Executive Director of Buildings and Properties and became a licensed contractor. This allowed him to act as the general contractor on behalf of Aldine ISD in the building and construction of all schools, additions, and buildings starting with Conley Elementary until the addition of MO Campbell. Sadly after thirty years of marriage, Willman’s wife Ann passed away. They had 3 children: Willman “Jim” Jr, Leah (Bernard) Bynum, and Joy Llorens.
Bill went on to be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Operations before retiring in 2002. After Bill retirement a newly open school in Aldine ISD was named in his honor Willman Plummer Middle School. Since retirement: he travels with his partner of more than 20 years (Sue Murray), he has spent time as a missionary in Guatemala, enjoys delicious meals accompanied by a good bottle of wine, and has taken on the task of parenting his grandchildren, Ryan and Hayden Llorens; and mentoring his older grandchildren, Belani and Stephen Bynum.
