Kenneth L Dunn., Sr. started life as a Kashmere Gardens Ram at the age of fourteen; he was a 1968 graduate and student-athlete in football and track. After signing up for football in 1965 Kenny quickly learned the meaning of “TEAM” and being your brother keeper would transform into team success which would come full front his senior year. He was captain of the junior varsity K.G. Rams football team. Kenny was a two-year starter on one of Kashmere’s most outstanding defense units in the 65-year history of the school. He was on every special unit that played “kick-off’, receiving defense and offense, and punting team. Needless to say, Kenny was glad for halftime so he could get a break. His most memorable game in his junior year was when Kashmere defeated Jack Yates with 7 seconds in the game to advance to the Regional Championship game.
Kenny’s senior year 1968 was a very important chapter in Texas high school athletics as the UIL and PVIL would integrate and for the first time, Kashmere Gardens High would compete against majority white schools in all sports. What Kenny had learned about team and unity was now on full display. The Rams were up for the challenge as they dominated their opponents finishing the regular season with eight wins no losses and two ties. The history-making game of the 60’s pitting Kashmere vs Bellaire with the city fans divided along the racial line. The game was played before an overflow crowd at Jeppesen Stadium. The Rams would fall 14-0 closing out his high school football career. Kenneth is married to his high school sweetheart of 53 years Ms Lois Terry Dunn and they’re enjoying retirement together.
