Minister Vernon “Truck” Turner

Minister Vernon “Truck” Turner was raised in the Kashmere Garden area and is a proud Alumnus of the Class of 1975. He was a very outgoing student and a skilled student-athlete during his time at Kashmere. Vernon was selected by his teammates and coaches as the 1973 outstanding Sophomore. He played varsity football and track in his sophomore year and continued in the year of 1974 to become All District defense player of the year, also honorable record setter in track-and-field in the year of 1975.  His senior year, he led the Kashmere Rams defense setting a record of “All District Shut Out”, meaning no school scored on them in District. The same year the Kashmere High School Football Team was the first High school football team to play in the Houston Astrodome. His senior year he was selected as “All American Defense Player of the Year”. With scholarships in hand, he chose family, he married Stephanie Diane Fisher, and they began a family.

 Vernon would realize his talents as a musician and begin playing in a band that played all over the Houston area called SAPIEN, which would open many doors for him. He joined the National Emancipation Association as the Coordinator for Juneteenth Freedom Festival. After several years of serving as Coordinator he was appointed to Vice- President of the NEA and later the President and the passing of the late C. Anderson Davis.  He was selected to serve on the advisory board for the Miller Outdoor Theatre for 23 years. Vernon was very instrumental in the efforts to keep Kashmere High from closing. He helped unite the classes together and strengthen the alumni by forming the annual Homecoming events. Vernon committed his life to God and has been a minister of the gospel for over 25 years and has been a pilar in the community. 

Minister Turner would like to acknowledge his late wife, Stephanie Diane Turner of 45 years, his two beautiful children; (daughter) Pastor Tina (Turner) Glenn, former Miss Juneteenth and (son) Vernon Turner Jr., who played N.I.F.L. football for the Rome Renegades and the Evansville Bluecats. His devoted mother of 86 years Norma Turner, his dedicated son-in- law, Pastor Nichalas Glenn Sr,  his three grandchildren which are the light of his life, Nichalas Glenn Jr, a proud graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a Masters from Houston Christian University. Cameron Glenn, high ranked in track and as wide receiver for Atascocita High School with a full ride to University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Faith Glenn, who is a cheerleader, basketball player and a hurdler in track and a host of supportive brothers, sister, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins and loyal friends. Minster Vernon “Truck” Turner is the owner and C.E.O of Turnerco Oil & Service. His favorite hobby is bowling and he is a member of the U.S.B.C., the United States Bowling Congress. When Vernon is asked where he sees himself in 10 years, his response is “having built a bridge, so I can watch others cross over, just like I did”
