Dr. Samuel E Lockett

Dr. Samuel E Lockett, born as the eleventh child among twelve to Rev. Richard and Mrs. Doris Lockett, emerged as the eighth sibling to proudly graduate from Kashmere High School. A proud member of the 1977 graduating class, Dr. Sam fondly recalls his time at Kashmere as some of the most significant years in helping to shape the lives of he and his siblings.

Dr. Lockett and his eleven siblings all graduated from college with nine of eleven attending Prairie View  A&M University. Prairie View was considered a family school just as Kashmere was. Six of the kids went into medical careers. Two of them became obstetrics and gynecological doctors and two became registered nurses. One became a Dentist, and he also married a Dentist. Dr Sam is a psychiatrist, and he also married a family medicine doctor. The other six choose different careers two make their mark. Two went into education, one becoming a librarian and one becoming a high school counselor. One became an engineer; another one became a social worker, one worked in the business industry and the “baddest” one in the family became an episcopal priest. The in-laws had careers that included several pastors, a college professor, and a nurse.

Sam’s decision to join the football team at Kashmere was influenced by his older brothers, several neighbors and all the stories he had heard of Kashmere football. Driven by a desire to contribute to that legacy and academic excellence, Dr. Sam became a part of a winning football team, playing on the offensive line. Despite not being the largest lineman, he poured his heart and efforts into ensuring the team’s highly successful offense that scored as many points as possible. Additionally, he actively engaged in various extracurricular activities during his time at Kashmere.

Dr. Sam pursued higher education at Prairie View A&M University, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry with a focus on Pre-Medicine. His commitment to community service continued and increased while in college as he participated in numerous activities at Prairie View.

Embarking on a journey to becoming a physician, Samuel was accepted into Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska where he obtained his Medical Doctor Degree. Dr. Sam completed his residency training at the University Of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where he specialized in Psychiatry. Dr. Lockett explored various facets of Psychiatry, discovering a profound fulfillment in counseling and medical education. His professional journey led him to Harris Health System, where he played crucial roles in the education of physicians, nurses, students, and other employees. Dr. Lockett has also utilized his medical training and expertise to educate pastors, preachers, church men’s groups and others on stress management and a healthy mental health lifestyle.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Lockett found lasting happiness in his personal life. Celebrating thirty years of marriage, he shares a deep bond with the love of his life, Dr. Naomi Mack Lockett. Together, they are proud parents of two wonderful daughters, Lauren a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School and Lerah, a graduate of Prairie View University and an aspiring physician. Sam’s journey from Kashmere High School’s football field to the esteemed halls of the psychiatric profession reflects not only his athletic ability, but also his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those he serves.
