Gary Lynn Glover, a student-athlete in the graduating class of 1972. A lifelong Houstonian, he attended, J. C Sanderson Elementary, I.M. Terrell Jr. High, and Kashmere Sr. High. Growing up in a neighborhood with many talented kids that had loved for sports is where Gary interest in baseball began. His summer vacations were spent playing baseball at a park nearby to enhance his skills. When Gary arrived at Kashmere he would play varsity, starting in centerfield his sophomore and junior year. Glover’s most memorable game was against Booker T. Washington in a district showdown game. Gary had two hits as he batted home both runs and drove home the winning run in a 2-0 victory and kept Kashmere in contention for district title. Gary’s senior year he was selected team captain by Coach Major Abram because of his leadership and varsity experience. The Ram’s was in need of a strong right hand pitcher so Coach moved him to pitcher when not playing the outfield. While throwing in the gym before the season, he injured his arm which made his senior season a very difficult one.
Gary was the only child, due to his mother Ora Jean Glover death at the age of 19, when he was only 14 months old. Gary was raised by his grandparents Lee and Mary Glover. They had raised 11 of their own children but eagerly took on the task and responsibility of raising Gary. They were loving grandparents, but disciplinary individuals, which Gary is very grateful they were. His greatest childhood memories were traveling with his grandparents to Detroit Michigan and Oakland California to visit family.
Gary obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, at Texas Southern University 1977, while working full time at Trailways Bus Company. He also was elected Union Representative for Amalgated Transit Union of the Trailways Bus Company. Upon graduation from TSU he was offered a Management position at Budd Corporation in Gary, Indiana but decided against it, because of his Grandparents ages. In 1978 Gary was employed by Occidental Chemical Corporation as Sr. Lab Technician for 16 years, in 1994 he moved to a plant operator position within the company. After 31 years with Occidental a back injury forced him to retire.
Gary is blessed by Almighty GOD with two children Garrian and Chardae, born in 1980 and 1986 respectfully. Gary is married to his wife Mirrian of 17 years; they share a blended family of 5 children 11 grandkids and one great grand. His family, Uncles, Aunts and Grandparents were the most influence in molding Gary’s life. They all were advocates of Almighty God which is the beginning and the end. Glover is thankful for his Grandfather reciting the Ten Commandments and other Bible Scriptures to him during the course of his life. GOD’S WORD has truly become life to Gary. The knowledge and understanding of HIS WORD has provided peace, joy, and a bountiful life.
