Alexander Jones Jr, a 1961 graduate of Kashmere Gardens Jr. Sr. High School, was reeled in the Trinity Gardens area of Houston and attended J. C. Sanderson Elementary. Alexander would spend his summer vacation with his Dad in Conroe and this is where he became interested in baseball. He played for a local little league team in Conroe but had to wait patiently until high school to play the game that he was beginning to love. Alexander attended E. O. Smith junior high until the newly Kashmere Gardens Jr. Sr. High School opened in 1957 his ninth-grade year. Once at Kashmere, he would finally get a chance to display his baseball talent on the high school level. Alexander was a four-year varsity letterman for Coach Henry Stevenson as the first baseman.
His junior season would be Kashmere’s best team as they would represent Houston in the PVIL playoffs after winning the City Championship. They lost to Galveston Central after winning the first game and losing the next two games ending their season. He was named the team’s “Most Valuable Player’ that year as well. Alexander’s senior year he was selected team captain for the Rams baseball team. He was voted by his senior classmates “Most Popular Male” in 1961. To this day when someone is trying to connect with a classmate they call Alexander and most of the time he can locate them. He has been instrumental in keeping K G Jr Sr’s history alive through conversation with the younger generation.
Alexander is married to Mrs Bobbie Jones; this year marks their 60th Wedding Anniversary. They’re the parents of four Derwin, Alexander III, Monique, and Andre. They’re Grandparents of three and Great-Grandparents of seven.
