Eric LaRue Ferguson was born on August 17, 1960 to Henry and Elnora Ferguson. He began his formal athletic training in 1973 at Francis Scott Key as an eighth-grader under the guidance of coaches Andrew Williams, Melvin Jones, and Wesley Boyd while participating in football, basketball, and track. Eric entered Kashmere in 1975 and made the varsity team as a punter/kicker under head coach Johnny B. Felder. In 1976 Eric’s junior year he played kicker, tight-end and defensive-end.  That season was his break out year as he earned All-District, All-City, All-State and was named to the Parade Magazine and the National High School Coaches All American teams. The 1976 season also earned him (Bill McMurray) Houston Chronicle 70’s All-Decade first team. As a National Honor Society student-athlete he graduated in 1978, with teammates Harvey Armstrong, Gary Smith, and Donald Pettaway (RIP) they would sign with head coach Ron Meyer and attend Southern Methodist University. This group was preceded to SMU by Kashmere Alumni Anthony Smith and Lee Spivey. Eric would start as a freshman and go on to become a four year letterman for the Mustangs.  The” Pony Express” would form in 1979 with the addition of Michael Charles, Stanley Godine, Craig James and Eric Dickerson.  After the1980 Holiday Bowl game Eric was named to the 2^nd team All-SWC as a junior. His senior season Eric was named to the All-SWC 1^st team and the SMU Mustangs was crowned the 1981 National Championship to cap off Eric’s stellar college career. Entering the workforce after college he went to work for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Houston 1983-1984, then moving on to Schepps Grocery as a route supervisor from 1985 to 1988. During his employment at Schepps he was representative for Teamster Local 988. Relocating to Carmel Indiana with Mayflower Transit, Eric would obtain his CDL license before returning to Houston in 1991. Eric would gain employment with Watkins Transportation now (FedEx Freight) with 18 years of service and has covered 4.5 million miles accident free with God’s grace. He has three children Jaylon (24) living in Laredo, Texas. Eric is a single parent to Paige (15) and Marc (11) that keeps this proud father moving constantly. The past 3 years Eric and his children has been active in various activities with Kashmere C/O 78, KFAA and Alumni groups benefitting  students and families in the Kashmere and Trinity Gardens communities.  He is truly honored to be recognized on this special occasion.
