Kenny was Kashmere’s Outstanding Athlete of the Year in 1968 as shown by the awards bestowed upon him. He was the first minority to win the “Thom McAn Award”. The McAn trophy is a national award that annually honors outstanding high school athletes who have good academic marks. Over 100 major newspapers across the nation co-sponsor the project. Many Houston schoolboy football writers in 1968 considered Adams the best receiver to come out of the city ranks in the past 20 years.
