Delvin Williams

Delvin Williams is a Houston native. He’s a graduate of Kashmere High School and made Parade Magazine’s 1970 high school All-American football team. He led Kashmere High to a 12-1 season in which he gained 1805 rushing yards in only 9.5 games. He also ran track and had the best time of 9.5 in 100 yard dash. Delvin was academically ineligible his freshman year. However, four years later Delvin graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelors’ of Science Degree in Education. In 1974, he was drafted in the second round by the San Francisco 49ers. Delvin the 49ers in rushing three of the four years he spent in San Francisco, in 1976 he set four 49er records. The 49ers single-season rushing with 1203 yards, 34 carries in one game, 194 yards, and 374 yards in back to back games. He was named to the NFC All-Pro team.

In 1978, Delvin was traded to the Miami Dolphins, were he set their single-season rushing record with 1258 yards that stood the test of times for 24 years. Again he was selected first team AFC All-Pro. He became the first player in NFL history to rush for 1000 yards for two different teams, set rushing records for two different teams, and named to the Pro Bowl for an AFC & NFC team.

After retiring, Delvin leveraged his experience as a professional athlete to develop a background rich in the areas of youth activities, sports and drug abuse prevention. As executive director and founder of “Pros for Kids,” he spearheaded several successful programs all of which sought to curb substance abuse among youths.  First Lady Nancy Reagan was the speaker at three fundraising dinners and his organization raised over $500,000. Delvin had the privilege of being invited to the White House for state dinner for the president of Ecuador.

 

Delvin has over two decades of leadership in Public and Community Relations. He organized a consortium of community, private and public sector organizations to create a clearinghouse for Jobs for Youth. Delvin has extensive local community experience having served on the boards of several organizations in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
