Leon Strauss

Leon Strauss was born in Houston, Texas on September 29, 1952, to Ivory and Ophelia Strauss.

He received his early years of education in the 5th Ward and Kashmere Garden area. At Kashmere High School, his Alma Mata, he excelled in academics and sports. Leon never played organized football until he attended Kashmere High School where he became a freshman starter on the varsity team… He was a two time All American offensive (#70) football player for the Mighty Kashmere Rams.  He developed a solid bond and a strong everlasting camaraderie with his teammates.

At Kashmere, he met and married Linda Davis his high school sweetheart who scored a touchdown in his heart.  This union created 35 years of marital bliss, two children, Lyntrice and LeDarien, and the beginning of generations of love, laughter, and precious memories. He was a dedicated employee of Southern Pacific Railroad for 35 years.

He had a zeal for youth and was active in his community.  He served on the East Houston Athletic Club, Executive Board of Directors for Texas Teenage Baseball as 1st Vice President for many years. During his tenure, East Houston sponsored 500 + youth and was the largest youth baseball organization under Texas Teenage.  In addition, Leon, along with Linda organized the East Houston Orioles, under Texas Teenage, where they managed and coached little league baseball and won several state championships.

Leon had an enormous passion for his church, St. Luke Baptist Church, where he was an active and devoted member until his entrance into glory on August 18, 2006.
