Timothy “Tim” Gray

 

First Quarter

Timothy Gray known to many as Tim was one of four kids born to Thelma and C.M. Gray in Houston, TX on November 11, 1952.

Tim was an inner city student in the Kashmere Gardens area of Houston. He attended public school from elementary to high school.  As a student, standing tall among his peers Tim not only focused on his education but also making the most of his athletic capabilities as well.  As a student of Kashmere High School and a member of their football team, Tim stood out as a star player playing dual positions as a Tight End and Cornerback. During his time at Kashmere High School, he was named All-City, All-District, All-State, Blue Chipper athlete, and was named to the Houston Chronicle 70’s All-Decade First Team.  Tim was a 1971 graduate of Kashmere High School.

Second Quarter

Upon graduation from Kashmere High School, team pursued his post-high school education as a student-athlete at Navarro College. While attending Navarro College, Tim was an active member of their football team and earned junior college All-American.  In 1972, Tim graduated from Navarro College with an Associates of Science degree.

Half-time

Tim entered into parenthood as the proud father of 2 daughters, Sunya and Monica (d).

Third Quarter

Tim legacy begins to emerge as he was the first Kashmere student-athlete to accept an athletic scholarship to Texas A&M University located in College Station, TX as a member of their football team. He was the beginning of a long line of Kashmere student-athletes to attend A&M. While attending Texas A&M as a proud Aggie, Tim was named All-Southwest Conference 1st Team Cornerback in 1973 and 1974.

 

Fourth Quarter

In 1975, Tim was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as a 1st round NFL draft pick. In addition to playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1976-1978 and San Francisco 49ers in 1979. Tim retired from football in 1979.

 

Overtime

After retiring from football, he received his barber’s license and began cutting hair in the same community in which he lived and molded him to be the athlete and man he was.  Tim was very well respected by those young and old to whereas his barbershop was a place that allowed him to be a mentor to the next generation of student-athletes and young men in the Kashmere Garden area.
