Alonzo Reynolds, III

Alonzo Reynolds, III has been an educator for 35 years.  In that time he has been a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal.  Before Alonzo started his career in education, he was named a 1978 All District Basketball player his senior year at Kashmere.  He was awarded a basketball scholarship to Prairie View A&M University where he received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Education.  During his career at Prairie View, Alonzo was honored for his accomplishments which include, All SWAC, Defensive Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Freshman.  He also led Prairie View in scoring, rebounds and steals his senior year. His ability to lead was recognized at Prairie View as he was named Captain of the team for 3 years.

 

During the summer of 1992, Alonzo was named the Head Basketball Coach at Kashmere to replace legendary coach, Frankie Brazos. Alonzo is the only Kashmere graduate to be named Head Basketball Coach. This accomplishment was very special because Coach Brazos was Alonzo’s Coach from 7th grade through 12th grade. Alonzo went on to lead the Rams to 2 district championships, 1 bi-district championship and 1 area appearance. Alonzo was named Coach of the Year both years he served as Head Coach of Kashmere by the Greater Houston Coaches Association.

 

After his tenure as teacher and coach, he went on to focus on educational leadership and administration.  During that time, he has helped schools unable to meet State Accountability improve to not only meeting State Accountability but also receiving academic recognition.  He was instrumental in introducing academic programs such as Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) and International Baccalaureate to the curriculum of the schools to improve the academic success of the students.  His ability to promote parental and community involvement has also helped the success of the schools he has led.  Instrumental in Mr. Reynolds’ accomplishments is his unwavering belief that in the appropriate academic setting, all students can be academically successful.  Currently, Mr. Reynolds is the Principal of Dekaney High School in Spring ISD, which under his leadership continues to grow academically and meet the needs of all students. 

 

His achievements include:  Region 4 Principal of the Year, United States Congressional Honor for Outstanding Achievement, Houston Press top 60 Schools and Texas Monthly top 100 schools and he has been recognized as an Outstanding Educator by the City of Houston and The North Houston Retired Educators Association.  He is a member of the National Association for Secondary School Principals, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and Prairie View A&M University Basketball and Sports Hall of Fame. He is married and the proud father of three sons and grandfather of five.
