Craig Reggins

I, Craig Reggins, was born in Houston, Texas January 23, 1956 to Leroy and Barbara Reggins. I attended Terrell Junior High School in the years of 1971 and 1972 where I learned and started to develop a passion for the game of basketball. With that passion to basketball was a curiosity that was quite evident from the start from Coach Grimes’ perspective.  I can proudly say I was able to acquire about 60% of my basketball talents through Coach Randy Grimes with his commitment and hard work that he exhibited not only for me, but my other peers as well. With that passionate start, coupled by a coach who really cared for me regarding developing my basketball skills, I took it upon myself to dedicate my following summers to honing my craft through playing with older guys at Finnegan and Rosewood Park.

In the years of 1973 and 1974 I attended Kashmere High School where my basketball career took a drastic turn in the positive direction. Under the direction of Coach Weldon Drew, I was able to learn the remaining skills I needed in order to get me to the next level which included the fundamentals and the basics. Also, Coach Ned Streety played an impactful role in helping with the mental side of things as he stated, “Your victory starts with your mindset!” That statement has also assisted me with other aspects of my life as well. In the year of 1974, I was named co -captain as a senior by Coach Drew and led the team to its first state championship. During that year I had a scoring average of 18 points per game which sub sequentially led to several accolades that year. The following includes an All- district, city, and state team which had me listed as a first teamer. I also was able to capture an All-American High school Prep award during my senior year. After my high school playing career, I went on to attend the College of Mainland and Prairie View A&M University. In 1975 I attended the College of Mainland where I averaged 20 points a game, along with 4 assists and 2 steals. The year after in 1976 I enrolled at Prairie View A&M University where I was able to average 16 points a game, coupled with 6 assists and 1.8 steals a game.

After my playing days I was fortunate enough to reunite with the love of my life. She has and still to this day is my complete rock. Kathy Westbrook is truly my soul mate and I have no idea where I would be in life without her by my side. The good Lord was also grateful to me in providing me with genuine friends that have been there since the very beginning of grade school. Paul Hester, one of my dearest friends to this very day has been there for me on multiple occasions and I can’t thank him enough for being a true friend to me and my family. I also cannot forget the driving forces in my life which are my children and grandchildren. My children are Shane, Surquan, Adam and Quinston. And my grandchildren are Jacoby, Airial, Paige, Alstin and Ozsric.
