Annie L. Brown

Annie L. Brown began her athletic journey at Kashmere Gardens Junior Senior High School. Often playing volleyball as a child with neighborhood friends, she continuously improved her skills.  She loved the sport of volleyball so much until she decided to try out and made the volleyball team.  Her skills and competitiveness did not go unnoticed.  She was an intense and inspiring volleyball player for four years, which led to her becoming co-captain of the volleyball team until graduating Kashmere in 1965. They were City Champs in volleyball each year that she participated.  While attending Kashmere Gardens Senior High School, she was also a member of the National Honor Society, Business Club, French Club, Student Council, and the Senior Service Club.

During her high school years, her nickname was “Ann”.   After graduating high school, Ann attended North Harris County College before moving to Los Angeles, California.  There she attended East Los Angeles College and became a licensed vocational nurse (LVN).  She worked at hospitals for a while.  In 1974, she began a new career at the United States Postal Services (USPS) as a postal worker.  Annie worked there for 33 years until retirement in 2007.  She remains active and is still a member of the National Association of Postal Workers.  After USPS retirement, she began another career at the Harris County Appraisal District as an Appraisal Review Board Member.  She worked there for ten years.  In her spare time, she enjoys dancing and is also a member of the Steppers dance organization.  Annie enjoys traveling and helps others as her ministry.  She belongs to Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Timothy Criswell.  Being active in church, Ann teaches Sunday school and also sings in the choir.

Annie is the daughter of the late Laurie Keys and Horace Brown.  She was previously married to Roy Townsend, who is also a graduate of Kashmere High School Class of 1965.  Later she remarried Dwayne Lamott.  Ann has two sons; one granddaughter and one grandson.  With the support of her parents, she has lived a good life and recognizes the value of teamwork as well as the importance of giving back.  Annie would like to thank all the coaches at Kashmere High School who influenced her life, especially Gladys Williams (volleyball coach) and Elizabeth Bradley (department head).

Their invaluable contributions have helped shape and develop her into the woman that she is today.   With that being said, thank you all so much for your contributions — Kashmere High School staff and coaches!
