Frederick L. Dunham

Frederick L. Dunham, born August 15, 1954, in Houston, Texas to parents F.L. and Mary E. Dunham. The fourth oldest of nine children (1 girl and 8 boys) I was raised in Kashmere Garden, and I attended all Houston Independent School District Schools; J.C. McDade Elementary, I. M. Terrell Jr. High, and Kashmere Sr. High. As a young boy growing up with seven brothers playing sports in our large backyard was all we lived for. Whether it was playing with other boys in the neighborhood or just with my brothers, we played some type of sport every day. Although we did play a lot of football and basketball I fell in love with track and field.

My first encounter with organized sports was when I was attending Terrell Jr. High in the 7th grade. During my three years at Terrell JH, I played football (defensive end) and ran track (120 yds. Low hurlers and the 70-yard high-hurler). I took all that I had, from organized sports at Terrell JH to Kashmere Sr. High where I was a 2-year varsity letterman on the K-Rams football team and a 3-year Varsity Letterman on the K-Rams track team, winning District 17-4a in the 120-yd. High hurlers for three consecutive years and finished my best time at the T.S.U Relays with a time of 14.5 seconds in the 120-yard high hurlers.

After graduating from Kashmere Sr. High I received a full 4-year football scholarship to LAMAR UNIVERSITY in Beaumont, Texas. While at LAMAR UNIVERSITY I played cornerback all four years.

In the fall of 1976 while at LAMAR UNIVERSITY, I became a brother of the “DOVE” PHI BETA SIGMA Fraternity Incorporated, Epsilon Nu Chapter.

I graduated from LAMAR UNIVERSITY in the fall of 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fine Arts and Education. Upon returning to Houston, I began working for Fluor Engineering Company in 1978 as a Piping Design Draftsman, and later that same year I married my high school sweetheart (Diane Fletcher) whom I have been married to for 43 years. God has blessed us with three children and seven grandchildren.

Currently, I am fully retired, still living in Houston, Texas, and enjoying my life. I am doing the things I enjoy the most with family and friends. Dancing, singing, sports, working out, and just relaxing and making people laugh along the way.

I would like to personally thank my family and all my dear friends that have supported me throughout this life’s journey. I would also like to thank the Kashmere Former Athletes Association for acknowledging me as one of many Kashmere High School Athletes to be inducted into the “KFAA Ring of Honor”
