Dr. Reginald Spivey

Dr. Reginald Spivey is a proud graduate of the Kashmere High School Alumni Class of 1977. After 45 years his pride for Kashmere High remains untarnished and will always have a deep place in his heart.

Dr. Spivey pursued a career in education partly because of his successful and inspiring educational experience as a student at Kashmere High. Dr Spivey attended Kashmere High and was nurtured by caring Educators. He has a real passion for helping students especially those who are considered to be disadvantaged.  He is currently a retired educator. He worked in the field of education for 35 years, serving 10 years as a teacher/coach and the last 25 years as a high school administrator. Dr. Spivey is very grateful to God for allowing him to impact so many lives over the last three and a half decades of his life. 

Dr Spivey lettered two years in basketball for the Kashmere Rams from 76 & 77 where he earned 2nd team all-district his senior season. Dr Spivey was offered several athletic basketball scholarships but decided to accept a full offer to Prairie View A&M University. While attending PV A& M Dr Spivey was a starter on the varsity basketball team every season and earned an MVP award his junior season. Dr Spivey was one of the SWAC conference leading rebounders only to finish 2nd place behind Mr. Mean “Larry Smith” from Alcorn University.  After finishing PV Dr Spivey played in the NBA Pro Amateur League for 8 years. He started for the Cinema West basketball team every year he played. 

Dr. Spivey had the privilege of playing with and against some of the greatest NBA players to ever play the game of basketball.

Dr Spivey began his coaching career at Kirby Middle school where he coached basketball, football and track. Dr Spivey sponsored one of the largest FCA Fellowship of Christian Athletes programs in the city that year. He was personally responsible for bringing 100 s of young boys and girls to the Lord.  Dr Spivey had the privilege of moving up to MB Smiley high school with his athletes where again he coached basketball, football and track.  While coaching, he also sponsored MOD Men of Distinction and FCA. Today, some of those same kids are now coaches, teachers, principals, police officers, firemen, successful entrepreneurs, managers, doctors and nurses etc. After coaching for 10 years Dr Spivey moved up into administration., where he spent the last 25 years of his career doing.

A few other of his recent accomplishments are he was acknowledged in March 2017 by the 101 Black Business Men of America for the prestigious “Made Man Award.” This award was given to 50 individuals in the Houston area for their accomplishments in business and/or community leadership. 

Dr Spivey was fortunate to work side by side with the Honorable Judge Grant Coleman in the ministry group called 2nd Chronicles. In this group, he has led ministry efforts to feed and provide clothing and shelter to the poor. One of Dr Spivey‘s most exciting assignments has been during his two years of tenure as President of the Kashmere High Alumni class of 77. It was his joy to give back to the school that gave me so much. Dr Spivey was able to assist in planning our 35th Class Reunion and to encourage former classmates to participate in community activities and future annual Homecoming events. 

While working as a high school administrator at MB Smiley Dr Spivey helped students facilitate their journey through school and college. One of his more notable accomplishments was helping to start a program called “No More Victims.” His character was featured in the movie titled Fighting The Odds “The Marilyn Gambrell Story.” 

Hollywood Actor Eugene Clark played Dr Spivey’s character as he costars as Vice Principal in that movie. This movie was developed out of Dr Spivey, Marilyn Gambrell, and Perry Beasley’s efforts to curve the cycle of incarceration of our intercity youths who had a parent or a family member that had been incarcerated. 

Dr Spivey taught school in the North Forest Independent School District for 10 years. While teaching and coaching in NFISD he was named twice in WHO’s Who Among America’s Outstanding Educators.

Dr Spivey holds a Bachelor of Science degree & a Master of Education degree from Prairie View A&M University.  He holds a Bachelor of Art degree from the College of Biblical Studies. He received an Honorary Doctorate from JKU Juliette King University in Christian Ministry  Dr Spivey is currently running for Humble ISD School Board this 2023 year.
