Dwight E. Willis is a 1972 graduate of Kashmere, he first gives thanks to his parents Hilry and Victoria Willis for allowing him to play football. Dwight’s journey started on Hirsch Road at Kashmere Gardens Jr. Sr. High School as a 7th & 8th grader. As he entered 9th grade, the same school different name they became Francis Scott Key. That year his team would win the first district championship in Key Middle School history coached by Melvin Jones. Dwight’s hard work and dedication would result in him being selected to the All-District Team as a linebacker.
Dwight would follow his older brother Hilry who played football and ran track to the newly open Kashmere High. Under the direction of Junior Varsity Coach Tom Hendricks and staff, they were able to merge players from Key, Terrell, and Fleming into a powerhouse team in Dwight’s sophomore year. After running through their district opponents another first for Dwight as they were crowned JV City Champs in 1970 after defeating the Worthing Colts 40-0. Willis was a two-year varsity letterman under the tutorship of Coach Johnny B. Felder. Both years they would finish second place in District 17-4A. Dwight stated: that he played with a lot of great players along with some outstanding coaches. Thanks to my younger brother Ray for being my doctor; and for helping me with my wraps and bandages when I needed them. After graduating, Dwight was employed by Armco Steel until their closing in 1984. Dwight is the father of three children by marriage with a bunch of grandkids and greats. He still resides in our historical community Kashmere Gardens. Dwight would like to give thanks and blessings to KFAA. RAM FOR LIFE!!!
