Melvin Green, Jr.

Melvin Green, Jr. grew up in the Liberty/Kashmere Garden area of Houston. He was a student-athlete graduate from Kashmere High School in 1978. Melvin loved to play backyard football, but he always got injured thus the nickname “CAP” which was short for “Handicap”. If you asked him why he was called “CAP” he would say because he was not afraid to bust a “CAP” in somebody – then laughed at his own corny jokes.
He was a member of the varsity football team at Kashmere wearing 41 in honor of his neighbor Tim Gray Kashmere class of 1971. Cap was a two-year varsity letterman for Coach Johnny B. Felder. He accepted a full football scholarship to North Texas State University in Denton Texas.
After football, Melvin followed in his father’s footsteps and became a truck driver for SYSCO. He had more than 25 years of service before his untimely death. He was a member of the Restoration Church and served faithfully as Head Deacon.
Melvin was married twice – first to Tina Green – they had a son, Melvin Green III, and one grandson – Bradin. Melvin’s current wife is Demita and he is stepfather to her son – Joquese. “CAP” was good people and he lived the American dream. All that happened to him was part of God’s plan and he was excited to be a part of it. Melvin spent a lot of time at his mom’s house sitting under “The Tree” with friends of the neighborhood laughing and reflecting back to their youth. Melvin was a proud Ram and supported the KFAA fundraising efforts as well as a member of the original scholarship committee and was in attendance at the KFAA inaugural meeting in 2013. He was also instrumental in his sisters Janice & Joan becoming active members and recipients of the KFAA Ring of Honor in 2020. We miss him so very much but now he is a student-athlete for Jesus!
