Ralph Jewell Limbrick Sr. began his athletic career at Kashmere Gardens Jr. Senior high school in 1962 as a quarterback and safety under the leadership of
Coaches; Melvin Jones, Major Abram, William McGowan, and Lawton Smart. In the ninth grade, he became the starting halfback and safety and the team won the city junior high championship. In 1967, Ralph became the starting halfback and safety for the remainder of his high school career. He was the only freshman two-way player as a starting safety and backup running back. During that season, he played with his brother, Garrett Limbrick and Cousin Willie Limbrick, while under the leadership of Coaches Matthews, Hendricks, McGowan, Simon, and Cyrus Lancaster. He was also a two-way player for the 1968 team. From 1965 to 1968, Kashmere was district champs. In 1968, we played Bellaire High School for the city championship, pitting the first integrated playoff game in the city of Houston as we went down 14-0. That year, Ralph received All City and All-Zone Honors. He finished the season No. 2 in rushing yards, No. 2 in scoring, No. 4 in pass receiving yards, and 1st in punt and kick-off return yards.
In 1963, Ralph joined the junior varsity track team and was coached by Major Abram and Lawton Smart. Ralph set a record in the 660 yard dash and was a member of the 440 and mile relay team. He continued to run track throughout his high school career under Coach Tom Hendricks competing as a member of the 440 and mile relay team, also the open 440 yard dash. Ralph also played basketball as a point guard on the junior high basketball team under Coach Jordan as well as Coach Drew and Coach Henry Stevenson during his high school years.
Ralph accepted a football scholarship to attend Texas Southern University from 1968 -1969 and returned in 1971-1973 after serving in the Texas National Guard. From 1973 – 1977, Ralph served as a member of the United States Coast Guard. In June 1977, he began working at the United States Postal Service and retired after 32 years of service. In his spare time, Ralph enjoys traveling, bowling, and working out at the gym. He is also a member of Fifth Ward Church of Christ.
Ralph has been married to his wife Debora for 33 years and their off springs are, Luneta, Lajuana, Ralph Jr., Christopher, Shenai, and Nicole and 8 lovely grandkids.
