Joe Labrie’s athletic career started at Kashmere Jr. Senior High School located at Kelley Street and Hirsh Road, before the High School moved to 6900 Wileyvale Rd. As a young boy Joe was at awe of the Kashmere High School greats that came before him like James Jackson, Ralph Limbrick, Allen Merchant, John Sanford, Kenny Adams and many of the other greats. He waited for his chance to join the ranks. He started his climbed to athletic success by competing in both track and football at Key Middle School after Kashmere Junior, Senior High Schools separated. He played for Coach Jones at Key MS where in 1969 he earned All District honors in football as a receiver. In track he was a leg on the mile relay team that won 1st place in both District 5 and Region 1 competitions. As a high jumper in 1969 he won 1st place in an invitational zone 1 meet and District 5 competition.
Joe continued his football career at Kashmere High School where he switched positions from tight end to the offensive guard. He was a part of the 1970 junior varsity City Championship team. Joe states that one of his most memorable High School memories was the great comeback where the 1972 Rams overcame a 21 point deficit at half time to take a win over Jefferson Davis High School. Joe’s high performance grades on the grid iron for Head Coach Johnny B Felder and offensive line Coach Frank caught the eyes of legendary Morgan State Coach Earl Banks who recruited him. At Morgan State located in Baltimore Maryland Joe made multiple All Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and All Maryland State teams. Joe is proud to call himself a Kashmere Ram.
