Tim Daniels

Tim Daniels had the opportunity to play football under the late great head coach Billie Matthews, and later, the legendary Coach Johnny B. Felder.  During this time he played alongside some of the greatest running backs at Kashmere High including Russell Charles, Delvin Williams and Willie Skillern, and was also privileged to be a part of the Rams 1969 Regional Championship team that went 12 – 1. Tim was known for his exciting runs which often brought the crowd to their feet. It was Coach Thomas Hendricks that gave him the nickname ‘Tiny Tim’. Tim was honorably mentioned on the all-district football team, recognized as outstanding scholastic running back and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Tim is a son of the Trinity Gardens/Kashmere Gardens neighborhood. He attended J.C Sanderson and Easter Elementary schools and I. M. Terrell Junior High School before going on to Kashmere High School.  After leaving Kashmere High he went on to pursue his Associates degree at Southwestern Christian College, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and then on to Texas A&M University-Commerce, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

While a college freshman, Tim became part of a team of student activists who went from door-to-door in the community to register hundreds of first time African American voters in Kaufman County, Texas. This effort was led by Dr. David Benford, who eight years earlier had marched with Dr. Martin Luther King during the 1963 historic march on Washington D.C.

Post-graduation, Tim had an accomplished career in Information Technology and retired from Devon Energy Corporation and later EOG Resources after 35 years.  During his corporate career he also shared his knowledge of the informational technology industry as an adjunct instructor at Prairie View A&M and Lone Star College for several years.

While continuing in the industry, Tim has served as Senior Pastor of the Trinity Gardens Church of Christ for almost 25 years. During these years he helped grow and develop over 50 active ministries designed to meet the needs of the community and the church.

In further meeting the needs of the community, the church developed ministries and partnered with the following organizations: Lifeline Chaplaincy (ministers to cancer patients and their families in the medical center), IMPACT (an inner city ministry to the homeless), TIRR Memorial Herman (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research), Prison Ministry in Cleveland, TX, Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Super Neighborhood 8 (Trinity Gardens), Super Neighborhood 52 (Kashmere Gardens), Harris County Long Term recovery, City of Houston Department of Neighborhood, Greater Houston Redevelopment Council, Northeast Next Door Redevelopment Council, Kashmere Alumni Association, KIPP Northeast and the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s (LCMS) Youth Ministry as well as many others. Also located on the church campus is the Youth Development Center (YDC), a 501(c)(3) organization to positively impacts the lives of disadvantaged and struggling children in grades 1 through 6 by offering programs with technology based instruction in math and science, as well as character development and leadership training. Tim served on the YDC board for several years.

He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the Kashmere Former Athletes Association and is serving on the board of community schools focused ProUnitas. For his outstanding service to the community, Tim has been honored by such groups as Sigma Gamma Roe Sorority, United Ladies of Houston, Tarrant County Churches of Christ, Crusadersfor Colon Cancer, and Southwestern Christian College as well as others.
