Anthony (Tony) Stephens

Anthony (Tony) Stephens, a 1972 graduate and student-athlete at Kashmere High School is the youngest of three sons born to Shadrick and Dular Stephens. At an early age I began to show my love for sports which began at Trinity Garden Park. Anthony widely known as Tony was a two sport athlete in junior high at I. M. Terrell where he was All District and All City in both football and basketball. He was voted Team Most Valuable Player in football, which was presented to me by Hall of Famer Ken Houston of the Houston Oilers. My sophomore year I played on the Junior and Senior Varsity squads. Our junior varsity team won the City Championship and the varsity went 12-1 and lost in the quarterfinals to Beaumont Hebert. I received All District and All City achievement before graduating in 1972.

Following my high school career I received a walk-on scholarship to Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Also played semi-pro for the Houston Drillers and was an All Semi-Pro selection 3 consecutive years. Beginning my work career, I always had a love for trains and gain employment at Southern Pacific Railroad and retired with 32 years of service. After retirement I became a trainer-consultant, training and placing veterans for jobs with the railroad. I also assist with Houston Lunch Pad during Thanksgiving helping with food distribution. I was blessed with four sons and 15 grandkids. Thanks to my significant other Delores, I enjoy my retirement restoring old cars, fishing and traveling.
