Robert H. “Jubox “ Miller Jr. was an outstanding student-athlete and 1965 graduate of Kashmere Gardens Jr -Sr High School in Houston. He was a three year football letterman as a two way standout athlete under Coach Billie Matthews. Jubox earned All -District, All-City and All State Honors before closing out his career at Kashmere Gardens High School. He, along with teammate Harold “Bulldog” Willis were selected to play in the PVILCA East vs West All Star game in 1965. Playing for the West Squad they were victorious in defeating the East team 19-12. After high school Jubox as he is affectingly known attended Dulling Welding College and excelled as he finished top of his class. Robert would continue his work career at Pace Fabricators where he earned a supervisor position. He would later become a successful business owner of 8 Full-Service Gas Stations throughout the Houston area. Robert was the first African-American, Heavy-Duty Wrecker Service Owner to earn a contract with Metro Contraflow Lanes, and had a fleet of 16 Heavy Duty and Light Service wreckers. Today he is the proud and successful owner of Miller & Sons Wrecker & Towing Service as well as Miller & Sons Demolishing & Lot Clearing Service. Mr. Miller has been a successful entrepreneur for over 50 years.
Robert “Jubox” Miller sponsored, coached and mentored 150-200 community youngsters as he developed his little league football team. One of his proud players was Rodney Hampton, former All Pro running back for the New York Gaints and a Kashmere Alumnus. Robert has helped so many people in his lifetime and was a major contributor during Hurricane Harvey. On February 25, 2009, Harold L. Hurt, Houston’s Chief of Police, presented Robert with the “Humanitarian Service Award”, for assisting an elderly lady with debris clean-up that was an endangerment to her safety, after Hurricane Ike, ( September 13, 2008), ripped through the Houston area. He still loves watching football games as well as attending live games. All sports are a big hobby of his. Robert is an awesome husband to Valencia Miller and an outstanding father to Terrie, Rodney, Robert lll, Nakita, Andeidra, (deceased), Rachel, and Sherrell. He is a proud grandfather of15 grandchild, and 4 great-grandchildren. Robert H. “Jubox Miller Jr. states that his father, Robert H. “Boss” Miller Sr. and his high school football coach, Billie Matthews were his mentors. They passed the baton on to him and now he mentors to those who have a listening ear. He is highly respected in our historical community and to all who knows and love him.
