Fred N. Hill born Feb. 23, 1948; the son of the late Charles and Georgia Hill moved from Beaumont, Texas to Houston at the age of four. I began my education at Atherton Elementary then moved to Nat Q Henderson Elementary when it was built. While attending 6th grade at Dogan Elementary I fractures my nose playing sand lot football in a lot on Cavalcade @ Dabney Street and that’s where it all began. My love for football was always there and my big chance came in the 10th grade to become a part of the Mighty Kashmere Rams. Attending Kashmere Jr. and Sr. High School was an honor and a privileged. I want to thank Coach Billie Matthews for giving me a chance to become a part of the Mighty Rams, in 1964. I was a shot-putter on the track teams in under Coach Tom Hendricks to keep in shape for football. While on the Kashmere Rams football team I was chosen to be the Team Captain and received awards for All City, All Zone and All District. I was also chosen as Most Athletic Male for the Class of 1967 by my peers an honor indeed. In 1966 we were District Championship and advance to play Herbert High in Beaumont, TX. where we lost in the Bi-District Championship.
One great accomplishment while playing football was when the Kashmere beat Jack Yates High School in the last seven seconds of the game on a Hail Mary pass from Allen Merchant to tight end John Sanford We were behind at half-time and before going back out on the field after half Coach Hendricks put pieces of white tape over the players hearts to show and symbolized the heart of a “Ram”.
After graduating from Kashmere High School, I went on to attend Texas Southern University on an athlete scholarship and was blessed to make the offensive starting team in my freshman year. I lettered in football all four years and received the honor of selection to the All Southwestern Athletic Conference Team and Captain of the Texas Southern University Fighting Tigers.
After leaving Texas Southern University I volunteered for the US Marine Corp. where after basic training and receiving orders, I was chosen to be a member of the Quantico football team in Quantico, Virginia and was the only starting guard and none officer on the line. After being discharged (Honorably) from the Marine Corp. I was hired to drive for Gulf Oil USA receiving the State of Texas Safe Driving Award. While still employed with Gulf Oil I was offered a position in sales which I refused so I could continue what I loved doing …driving. I continued my driving career with Chemical Exchange, Chemical Leaman, Jack B. Kelley and Matlack Tank Lines. Being an owner operator I have truly enjoyed my driving career. I credit and thank my dad for my driving skills. He was a retire truck driver.
In 1992 a change took place in my life when I accepted the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I thank God for my wife of 33 years Deborah, son Fred Jr my daughters Tonya, Deana, my sisters Charlene Collins and Donna Boone, my grand-children and great-grandchildren, a host of other family members as well as my blended family.
