Calvin Robinson, Jr., while attending Kashmere Jr Sr High School he was a three years varsity letterman, playing center on offense and guard on defense before graduating in 1969. During his football career he gives credit to Coaches Billie Matthews, Tom Hendricks, Junious Simon and William McGowen as they were instrumental in his success on and off the field. Coach Simon was an All-Conference center at Southern University which enables him to tutor Calvin at the center position. Calvin’s junior season they were 8-0-2 and crowned district champs before losing to Houston Bellaire for the city championship. This game was historically as it pitted the first integrated playoff game in the city of Houston witness by an overflow crowd at Jeppesen Stadium. Also that year he was involved in one of the most memorable game in Kashmere history as they beat Jack Yates with seven seconds on the clock on a Hail Mary from Allen Merchant to John Sanford. Calvin’s senior year 1969, Kashmere High was relocated to 6900 Wileyvale which was an adjustment for him and fellow teammates Calvin Burleson, Gregory Prince and Hilry Willis because since junior high they wore maroon and white colors proudly, now it became red, white and blue. Calvin gives homage to those players before him that instilled in him toughness: Larry Edwards, Clarence Dickerson, John Brandon, Ralph Limbrick, Fred Hill, Henry Glenn, Alex “Boardwalk” Ferguson and Kenneth Dunn arguable Billie Matthews’s most outstanding defensive unit. Calvin’s senior season he was able to pass on the same knowledge he received to the 1970 team resulting in their 12-1 Kashmere history breaking record season and the advancement to the state quarterfinals.
After graduating from Kashmere Calvin attended Texas Southern University before enlisting into the Air Force where he served one term in Vietnam, after completing his four year assignment he would return to TSU to further his education in Finance. Later he enrolled at Houston Community College and completed an associate degree in Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning while working full-time with the US Postal service as a clerk. After ten years of service Calvin Jr. retired from the Postal Service to pursue his passion dream of Entrepreualship in 1984. Thirty-eight years of entrprenualship has been his mainstay with Robinson & Company Mechanical Contractors, heating, ventilation, air conditioning commercial and residence services. Calvin Robinson Jr has been a member of Brookhollow Baptist Church (affectionately known as the Church Without Walls), under the directions of Pastor Ralph West for 27 years and he serves as a Deacon. Calvin’s hobbies are timepiece collections and traveling with his family. He has four children, nine grandchildren. He has a granddaughter at Louisiana State University and one at Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas.
