Eddie Ervin Foster, a 1973 Kashmere High graduate was born June 5, 1954, to Freddie Sr. and Ella M. Foster. Eddie was the product of a very athletic family; he would follow in the footsteps of older brother Freddie Jr, who set the athletic mold that his siblings would follow. Entering Kashmere High in 1971 he wasn’t a surprise to Coach Felder, because he came from Lamar Fleming Junior High where he played for Coach Johnny B. brother Hollis Felder. At Kashmere, Eddie was a two-year starter and ran track for Coach Tom Hendricks. In 1973 he would blossom into the premier wide receiver in the city of Houston, as he was named to All-District, All-City, All-Greater Houston, All-State, and the Parade All-American Teams. Eddie was also named to the first team Houston Chronicle (Bill McMurray) 70’s All-Decade Team. As his stellar career was coming to an end, the beginning of five of his siblings to represent the Ram’s was on the rise as Bobby, Michael, and Marvin would also play football for Coach Felder and his sister’s Ella and Wanda would play tennis/volleyball for Coach Ozell Harris.
After a highly national recruiting process for his service, including nearly every college in the Southwest Conference, due to the declining health of his father, he decided to take his talent across town to the University of Houston to play for Coach Bill Yeoman. In 1976 he led the SWC Conference in yards per reception (20.2) and help the Cougars win the Southwest Conference Title and a victory in the 1977 Cotton Bowl. Eddie was a 4-year letterman for the Cougars before getting picked by the Houston Oilers in the eighth round of the 1977 draft.
In 2012 Eddie entered into the University of Houston Hall of Honor” and 2018 Kashmere Former Athletes Association “Ring of Honor” Inductee. He has 23 years of affiliation with non-denomination, Abundant Life Cathedral Church. He received his Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorate of Theology from Slidell Baptist Seminary. He is a certified Chaplaincy with Texas department of criminal justice, allowing access to men and women prisons to teach, preach and share the love of God, and helping change their lives from inside out, which is my God’s calling, which I have been doing effectively for the past eighteen years.
