Elder Eddie Lee McKelvey, Sr the husband of Mrs. Aneither (Abram) McKelvey of Shreveport, Louisiana and father to 9 children, 26 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, was born in Houston, Texas, on October 26, 1941, to Jack McKelvey, Sr of Lufkin, Texas and Maggie (Ross)McKelvey of Alto, Texas who went into labor with him at a church service. Eddie Lee McKelvey, Sr. now a Pastor and Elder with the Church of God in Christ was himself one of 10 siblings and the youngest son to this union.
Growing up Elder McKelvey attended church at Mt. Herman Baptist Church under Pastor L. Justice and Laws Temple COGIC under the tutelage of Bishop W. G. Law and Bishop N. H. Henderson before being called as founder and Pastor House of Deliverance COGIC Revival Center under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
Growing up Elder McKelvey attended schools in the Houston Independent School District, starting at Crawford then Matthew Dogan Elementary, before advancing to E. O. Smith Junior High. He began high school at Phillis Wheatley before transferring to the newly open Kashmere Gardens Junior Senior High School where he graduated in 1960. Mr. McKelvey was a member of the 1960 State Championship basketball team, (Kashmere Gardens Senior High 1st) under the direction of Coach Weldon Drew. Many sportsmen from the 60’s agree that championship team was arguable Coach Drew’s best squad. After graduating Kashmere McKelvey enrolled at Prairie View A&M University where he was a part of the basketball program as well.
Elder McKelvey, Sr. is a songster having sung freelance while in high school and recording under the Peacock Label, as The McKelvey Singers, a gospel singing group he founded. Elder McKelvey most recent singing talent has been recorded under the tile, Pastor E. L. McKelvey, Sr., with Songdre Productions.
Elder McKelvey has always been one whose interest were greatest in guiding and directing children and attending to the elderly as well as the homeless. It’s often said that he’s never met a stranger
