Ida Jewel Cormier

Ida Jewel Cormier is the third of five children born to Murphy and Mattie Cormier. She is a 1971 graduate of Kashmere High. She attended M. W. Dogan and R. L. Isaacs Elementary Schools. Ida entered Kashmere Gardens Jr Sr High in the fall of 1964 where her class was the last junior high (ninth grader) to graduate from K.G., the following year Kashmere relocated to 6900 Wileyvale. In 1968 as a sophomore Ida would begin participating in school extracurricular activities, first as a member of the squadron under the direction of Mrs L. Bailey. Ida was a big sports fan and enjoyed rooting for our sports teams and the halftime performance is what gave her the desire to become a cheerleader for the Mighty Kashmere Rams. She was a two-year varsity letterman as a โ€˜Fighting Rams Cheerleader under the tutorship of Mrs Lena Maiden (Youngblood).

Ida was a member of the Student Council and worked as an Office Student-Aid her senior year.  As a cheerleader, her dedicated school spirit was displayed as they cheered at all football and basketball games. The soulful school spirit was also recognized by her senior classmates who voted her โ€œMost School Spiritโ€.

After graduation, Ida would attend Houston Community College before entering the workforce. She was employed by the City of Houston in the Harris County Health Adm. Division. Ida would spend her last ten years of employment as a Leasing Agent for apartment complexes in the Houston area. She has served on 1971 reunion committees and co-chaired the communication committee for several reunions.
