Karl Godine, Sr.

Phase One, Karl Godine, Sr early years of playing basketball began with pick-up games in the neighborhood in the backyard of Shelton Zenon’s because he had a “real basketball goal”. Karl grew up in The Kashmere Gardens Community on Cavalcade St. He and his family are members of Union Memorial United Methodist Church also on Cavalcade St. His desire to be better with the game, he made the team at Key Jr. High School under the coaching of Mr. Johnson.

Phase Two was at Kashmere Sr. High School under the coaching of Mr. Weldon Drew and his assistant Mr. Ned Streety. During this phase Godine career took off as Kashmere would win back to back State Championship in 1974 and 1975. Karl received many accolades at Kashmere which includes MVP State Tournament, All District, All City, All State and numerous All American teams. Karl would end his high school career with a team record 78 game win streak and the nations #1 ranked high school in 1975. He was selected to play in the โ€œOhio All American Basketball Classicโ€™ and โ€œDapper Dan All American Roundball Classicโ€ in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

Phase Three led Karl to Texas A&M University in College Station on a full scholarship under the coaching of Mr. Shelby Metcalf. He was runner-up for โ€œFreshman of The Year Awardโ€ and A&M won the Southwestern Conference in 1976. After his sophomore year he transferred to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. At SFA Godine would make All Lone Star Conference 2 years in a row and was drafted in 1980 in the 7th round by the Washington Bullets.

Phase Four led him to being top salesman 5 years in a row at Charlie Thomas Ford and 3ys in a row at Westway Ford. Currently he is Owner/Operator of “On The Go” Mobile Detail Service. At this stage of life spending time with his family is very important to him. Karl still loves the game of basketball and often you will find him giving advice to the next generation of players. He is also an excellent chess player.  A special thank you to Ephraim Griffin, Shelton Zenon, and Charles Bowen for giving their early encouragement for me to always striving to be the best at my craft.
