Delbert Kemp a 1977 student-athlete graduate of Kashmere High. He was a three-year varsity letterman for Coach Johnny B. Felder fighting Rams. The nineteen seventies Kashmere Rams football teams had offenses second to none. The Veer implemented by legendary Coach Felder utilized the running back position. Putting up video game like points with ease, The Rams offense scored at will. One running back helped define the position: Delbert Kemp. Delbert Kemp, a product of Kashmere Gardens by way of Key junior high school, helped Kashmere define winning in the mid-seventies. As a sophomore in 1974, Delbert played behind returning starter Terry Shelton. Learning how the Rams veer offense works, Delbert number was called after Shelton was injured. The Rams finished 9-2; Kashmere first district title under Coach Felder. The next two seasons (1975 &1976) Delbert was part of historic teams. Playing with passion and with a knack of finding the hole to run into, Delbert leads the Rams in yards (758) touchdowns (11) in 1975. The 1975 Ram team with Delbert leading a contingent of outstanding running backs; which included fellow juniors Lindsay Foreman, Johnathan Rochon and sophomore Perry Comeaux; the Rams scored 315 points. With Delbert Kemp and the other running backs, The Rams finished with an undefeated regular season in 1976, number one team twice in the Houston area, and two top 3 state rankings!! Delbert ended his varsity career with two all-district selections, one all HISD selection and a lifetime of memories! Salute to KFAA Ring of Honor inductee Mr. Delbert Kemp!!
