Buckle up and let’s take a beautiful journey through the life of Doreatha Walker a child of Jesus, born to Otis and Alma Long, on a cold winter night in a Chevy. Who knew, she would be able to accomplish all the things you would read about in her bio. Her journey begins with the incredible High School she attended from 1981-1984, Kashmere Senior High School where she was the captain of the Basketball and Volleyball team throughout her time at Kashmere. She also won 2nd. place in Regional while playing tennis for the first time ever and she was also number 9 out of 357, top five percent of my graduating class. She was in the Honor Society and she was presented with many scholarships in academics and basketball. Keep reading, the story just begins. Kashmere Senior High played a pivotal role in her life, by shaping Doreatha to be a proud Ram and inspired her to reach for the sky in all that she does. Coach Ogilive was so inspirational in her life and he was the best high school coach ever. He taught her so many skills to win in life, and she will always love him.
After graduating from Kashmere, Doreatha chose to attend Texas A&I University on a basketball scholarship, then transferred to Texas Southern University, where she was on the Dean’s list, College Student of America and captain of the basketball team as well as an All American. During her time at Texas Southern University from 1985-1989, she is number 1 in steals, number 1 in three-point shooting and number 2 in assists while playing basketball for the Tigers. Doreatha enjoyed every second she was at Texas Southern University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, certified as a teacher and her Master’s Degree in Educational Mid Management, certified as a principal. She did not stop there; She received her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler. Doreatha is also a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha woman. The amazing Coach Gatlin who was Doreatha’s favorite basketball coach at Texas Southern University because he taught her so much on how to win in life. She loves Coach Gatlin. Doreatha gives a huge shoutout to her Junior high school coaches at Terrell Junior High School Mrs. Laura Banks and Mrs. Williams who both played a pivotal role in her life, teaching her to always go after what she believed in. She also wants to thank her friend, Mary Johnson who did not forget her and blessed her with this beautiful honor.
