Shone Wyatt was born on February 5, 1967, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Gloria and Eddie Wyatt Jr. He grew up in the Trinity Garden neighborhood of Houston, Texas, where he was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church. Throughout his early years, Shone attended J.C. Sanderson Elementary, I.M. Terrell Middle School, and Kashmere Senior High School, where his remarkable academic and athletic abilities began to shine. At Kashmere, Shone quickly distinguished himself as a gifted and talented student-athlete. As a freshman, he broke the school’s high jump record, a feat that set the stage for his athletic career. He also excelled in football and served as the captain of the basketball team. By his junior year, Shone’s prowess in track and field was undeniableโhe placed third in the state high jump competition with a remarkable jump of six feet, eleven inches, and also set the long jump record for the school. His senior year was truly a standout, as his basketball team earned all-district honors, and Shone was named District MVP and selected to the All-Region team. He was also voted “Most Athletic” by the Class of 1986, cementing his legacy as one of the top athletes at Kashmere High School.
After graduation, Shone continued his athletic career while pursuing higher education. He received a basketball scholarship to McLennan Junior College, where he played for two years. He then transferred to Texas Tech University for his junior year before finishing his Bachelorโs degree in Criminal Justice at Union College in Kentucky.
Grateful for the guidance he received along the way, Shone credits his teachers and coaches at Kashmere High School for helping to lay the foundation for his success. He extends special thanks to Coach Joel North, Coach Richard Frank, Coach Danny Thomas, and Coach Frankie Brazos for their unwavering support, mentorship, and encouragement.
In 1995, Shone began his career with the Houston Police Department (HPD). Over the course of his 30-year career, Shone has become a respected leader within the department. His dedication and professionalism earned him numerous accolades, including a nomination for Officer of the Year in 2021, hundreds of commendation letters, and multiple Chief Unit Citations. Shone plans are to retire in May 2030, with God willing, after a distinguished and impactful career.
Shone is also incredibly proud of his family. He is blessed with five gifted and talented childrenโJerna, Kaeshon, Erin, Eli, and Ethanโand is deeply grateful for the unwavering love and support of his amazing wife, Carnella Wyatt.
