Weldon Drew

Weldon Drew was a standout basketball player at Phillis Wheatley High School and Fisk University. He led Kashmere to Co State Championship in 1960 with Joe Lackey and Mighty Joe Young whom both ranked in the top ten players of the 60โ€™s in the HISD. Coach Drew team won back to back state titles in 1974 & 1975 and rode a 78 games winning streak to the No.1 ranked team in the nation. He was voted ESPN National Coach of the Year in 1975. Accepted assistant coaching job at New Mexico State, later to become the head coach.  He also coached at Oklahoma State and Langston University.

Individually, we as former student-athletes and cheerleaders personify Kashmere traditions and are an integral part of the ongoing success of our current program. As former students weโ€™re a part of this legacy and KFAA greatly value your contribution to our history. It is KFAA hope to preserve and celebrate the athletic heritage and tradition of this great school. KFAA will develop partnerships and apply our energies and resources toward a better athletic program.
